Mermaid turns text into diagrams: flowcharts, sequence diagrams, ER diagrams, state machines and architecture maps. Agents already write Mermaid well, but they often write syntax that doesn't render. The official Mermaid MCP server, from the team behind Mermaid Chart, checks the diagram, renders it and returns an SVG, a PNG and a link to edit it.
Point the agent at your code and it draws what's there: how a request flows through the services, which tables reference which, what states an order goes through. Signed in, it also saves diagrams to your Mermaid projects and updates them later.
Alternatives
| MCP | Pick it when |
|---|---|
| You want a local server with no account that exports PNG, SVG or files | |
| You want an editable hand-drawn diagram rather than Mermaid code |
Watch out
- Every tool call needs sign-in, even rendering. Use the local alternative if that's a problem.
- Large diagrams get hard to read. Ask for one diagram per flow instead of the whole system at once.
