Paper is a design canvas where every frame is real HTML and CSS, built to work with agents. Its official MCP server runs through Paper Desktop and gives your agent read and write access to the open file.
The agent can read the selected artboard and build it in your codebase, create variations on new artboards, pull your code's tokens into the file and turn a frame into React and Tailwind. Because the design is already HTML and CSS, the gap between design and code is much smaller than with a traditional design tool. If you want open source instead, see Penpot.

- Paper Desktop has to be open with a file loaded.
- The free plan allows 100 MCP calls a week, which a single session can use up. Pro is $20 per editor a month.
