Paralect vs Upwork

Upwork alternative: hire a vetted developer in 48 hours

Skip the proposal pile. Get 2-3 engineers our CTO already interviewed, and see when Upwork is still the better pick

Pick Upwork when

  • The task is small and clear: a landing page, a bug, a script
  • You can read code and judge a candidate yourself
  • Budget comes first and $15-25/h is the target
  • You need help outside product work, like bookkeeping or translation

Pick Paralect when

  • You have a live product and a backlog that keeps growing
  • You want 1 engineer who owns features end to end
  • You want an engineer fluent in Claude Code and AI agents
  • You want every candidate vetted by a CTO before you meet them
  • You have no time to screen proposals and run test tasks

FAQ

Is Paralect a freelance marketplace like Upwork?

No. Upwork is open to anyone who makes a profile, and you do the screening. Paralect is a closed network of 100+ engineers who each built a demo product and passed an interview with our CTO. You describe the project and we pick who fits.

Is Paralect more expensive than Upwork?

Our engineers charge $30-60 an hour with no fees on top. On Upwork you can find lower rates, plus a 5% marketplace fee and a fee per contract. The bigger cost on Upwork is usually your time: reading proposals, interviewing and paying for test tasks until someone works out.

How fast can I start?

You get 2-3 profiles within 48 hours of sending the brief. The 2-day trial can start right after, so most teams have an engineer working in their codebase within a week.

Can I hire for a short project?

Yes. Billing is weekly and there is no minimum term. Pick 20 or 40 hours a week, and stop when the work is done.

What happens if the engineer is not a good fit?

Tell us and we send a replacement from the network. On Upwork you would post the job again and screen from scratch.

Do your engineers use Claude Code and other AI tools?

Yes, every one of them. The demo project each candidate builds is made with AI agents like Claude Code and Codex, and the interview checks they understand and own the code the agent writes.
