Browser Use is an open-source agent framework. Its cloud MCP gives your agent a real browser in the cloud that can log in, fill forms, click through flows and download files, on sites with no API.
In Claude Code, you hand it a task in plain English, like "download last month's invoice from the supplier portal", and it runs the session for you. In your own product, it powers procurement that logs into supplier portals, QA that runs plain-English test flows on customers' sites, or booking tools that fill in forms on legacy systems. For testing your own app locally, Playwright is the better fit.
Alternatives
| MCP | Pick it when | Popularity |
|---|---|---|
| You want hosted browsers driven by Stagehand, with sessions you can watch and replay | 3.4K ★, official | |
| You want another cloud browser option for scraping and agent tasks | 0.8K ★, official | |
| The site is your own app running locally and you want it free | 38K ★, official |
Watch out
- Runs take from tens of seconds to minutes. Design the feature as a background job, not a chat reply.
- Any page it visits can try to instruct it. Don't give it accounts it doesn't need.
- It bills on usage: a $1 signup credit, then model cost plus 20%. Spending caps on API keys are soft limits.
Install
In Claude Code, with a key from cloud.browser-use.com/settings:
Terminal
Loading editor...
claude mcp add -t http -H "x-browser-use-api-key: YOUR_API_KEY" browser-use https://api.browser-use.com/v3/mcp
In your product, the hosted URL is
https://api.browser-use.com/v3/mcp. It expects the key in its own x-browser-use-api-key header, which the Claude API connector can't send. Use the AI SDK, OpenAI's Responses API or the Browser Use SDK instead.More in Top MCP servers for development.
