Playwright MCP is Microsoft's official MCP server for browser automation. It gives the agent a real browser: it opens pages, clicks, fills forms, takes screenshots and reads the console. It's the most used MCP server there is.
It reads pages through Playwright's accessibility tree, not pixels, so it works with any model. It's the fastest way to make an agent check its own work, and it's just as useful for design QA at every screen size. For performance traces and network debugging, pair it with Chrome DevTools MCP.
A real run
We asked it to check paralect.com the way a new visitor would. It couldn't find the Skills page from the homepage, so it went through About and found the link in the footer. Then it reported four real problems, including a view counter that has been failing silently.
We also asked for a design QA pass on our Skills page at phone, tablet and desktop widths. It found 12 issues. The worst two only show at tablet width: there is no menu at all, and the footer pushes the page sideways.
Watch out
- It loads about 40 tools into context. For long sessions, Microsoft now recommends its playwright-cli with skills, which uses fewer tokens.
- Full-page screenshots can miss lazy-loaded content and sticky headers. Ask for viewport screenshots while scrolling when the page has either.
