Grok Bot vs ChatGPT dots vs Meta Muse
The 3 always-on AI assistants that launched in fall 2026, compared. What each one is for, pricing, limits and which to pick.

In 6 weeks, 3 of the biggest AI companies launched the same kind of product: an AI assistant that doesn't wait for you to type.
  • August 11: SpaceXSI (formerly xAI) and Cursor open the beta of Grok Bot
  • September 8: Meta announces Muse
  • September 29: OpenAI launches dots in ChatGPT
All 3 work the same way underneath. The assistant gets its own computer in the cloud, signs in to your email, calendar and other apps, and keeps working after you close the laptop. It comes back when the job is done or when it needs your OK to send, buy or delete something.
The difference is who they're built for. Grok Bot is a team of assistants for work. Dots are a ChatGPT power-user's assistant that can also ship code. Muse is a personal assistant for your life.
You create several Bots, each with a name and 1 job: Sales Outbound, Inbox Manager, Expense Manager. They share 1 cloud computer, remember what you teach them and hand work to each other in group chats. The standout feature is teach-by-demo: do a task once while a Bot watches, and it saves it as a routine.
In October it got a lot better. It now routes tasks to other companies' models, including Claude Opus 5.5. Bots got their own email address, free access to public posts on X, and deeper Cursor integration for building software. Since October 12 it's part of the X Subscription, 1 plan for Grok, Cursor and X Premium, from $30 a month.
Best for founders, sales and ops teams with recurring busywork spread across many tools, including ones with no API. Downside: you can't pick the model, and all Bots share the same logins.
Setup, use cases, pricing and how it compares to Claude are in our Grok Bot guide.
OpenAI's take, built into ChatGPT and powered by GPT-6 Astra. You get 1 "primary dot" with a name and a cartoon face. It has its own cloud computer and browser, connects to ChatGPT's 4,000+ apps, and you can talk to it in ChatGPT, Slack or Microsoft Teams. With your permission it can also use your own laptop through the ChatGPT desktop app.
The strongest part is code. A dot can hand work to Codex, so it can watch customer feedback, fix the small bugs and send you pull requests with a video of each change.
Best for people already deep in ChatGPT and Codex. Downsides: you need ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium, it's not available in the EU, UK or Switzerland, and you get only 1 dot for now.
Meta's personal agent, on the Muse Spark model. It fills in the school form you forgot, books movie tickets the minute they open, sorts your inbox and shops for you, paying with a one-time card number through Link by Stripe. Talk to it in the Muse app, on the web, on Mac or in WhatsApp. It has a free tier and went to the top of the app stores in its first week.
Best for personal life admin and families. Downsides: US only, Amazon blocks it, and it wants broad access to your email, calendar and payments. Your chats are used for model training by default (you can turn that off).

How they handle safety

All 3 ask before sending, buying, publishing or deleting, and none of them will type in your password for you. The details differ:
  • Grok Bot gives you Allow once / Always allow / Deny on each action and an optional auto-review model. All Bots share 1 computer, so a sign-in for 1 Bot is a sign-in for all of them. Treat it as 1 trusted employee, not a set of separate ones.
  • Dots won't change passwords or move money at all; you do those yourself. Connecting an app doesn't grant blanket permission inside it.
  • Muse routes all internet access through a second agent, Sentinel, uses stored passwords without seeing them, and pays with one-time cards. You get a full audit trail.

Quick picks

  • You run a small business and drown in busywork: Grok Bot
  • You already pay for ChatGPT Pro and want the agent to ship code too: dots
  • You want help with family, errands and bookings, for free: Muse
  • You're in Europe: Grok Bot (check it's live in your country) or Claude Cowork
  • You want to tune the model and see everything it does: none of these. Look at self-hosted agents like OpenClaw or Hermes, or Claude Code.

What about Claude?

Anthropic doesn't have a direct equivalent yet. The closest pieces:
  • Claude Cowork does tasks on your files and apps. Since October 6, new tasks on Pro and Max run in the cloud and keep going when your laptop is closed. Each task gets a fresh sandbox that's thrown away at the end, so there's no persistent assistant with a standing job.
  • Claude Tag puts 1 shared Claude in your team's Slack channels. Anyone can hand it work with @Claude, and it can follow up on unfinished threads by itself. Team and Enterprise plans only.
  • Claude Code is the coding agent, and the one many developers still prefer for real software work. Grok Bot now routes some of its own work to Claude Opus 5.5.

FAQ

What's the difference between an AI assistant and a chatbot?
A chatbot answers when you ask. An always-on assistant like Grok Bot, dots or Muse has its own computer, signs in to your apps and keeps working on a task after you close the app, coming back only for approvals.
Which is cheapest?
Muse has a free tier. Grok Bot starts at $30 a month with the X Subscription. Dots need ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium.
Is Grok Bot better than ChatGPT dots?
For work with many recurring jobs, yes: you can run several Bots, teach them by demo and use them anywhere. Dots are better if you already live in ChatGPT and Codex, and have more app connections.
Can I use these in Europe?
Grok Bot is rolling out globally with the X Subscription. Dots aren't available in the EU, UK or Switzerland for personal Pro accounts. Muse is US only.
Are they safe to give my accounts to?
They're as safe as the permissions you give them. Keep approvals on for anything that sends, buys or deletes, and only connect the accounts the assistant really needs.
