pen.dev (formerly Pencil) is a Figma-like canvas where your coding agent does the designing. Claude Code, Codex or Cursor draws the screens, you tweak them by hand, then the same agent turns them into code.
How to start
- Install the desktop app or the Cursor / VS Code extension.
- Create a
.penfile in your project.
- Turn on your agent in Settings → MCP and restart it.
- Prompt it: "Design a pricing page with 3 plans in pricing.pen", then "Build it in Next.js with Tailwind and shadcn/ui".
⚠️
Design and code don't sync on their own. Ask the agent to update the other side after each change.
Pricing
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Full editor, unlimited MCP calls from your own agent |
| Pro | $16/user/mo | Built-in agent every day, 3 agents in parallel |
| Ultra | $48/user/mo | 6 agents in parallel, team workspaces |
Using it from Claude Code or Codex is free: you pay only for your own AI subscription.
Alternatives
- Figma + MCP: the standard for design teams; needs a paid Dev or Full seat for real agent use.
- Paper: AI-native canvas in the browser, copy as React.
- getdesign.md, Impeccable: no canvas, just design rules for your agent.
